According to the prospectus, the deluxe copies should have a special bookplate of a pencil and a crayon “vibratory” portrait. However, vellum bound copies do not always have the bookplate and it is occasionally found in ordinary copies. In the Select Bibliography appended to Kenneth and Steffi Grant’s Zos Speaks!, Robert Ansell discusses how copies can be found in either light brown or dark brown wraps. He suggests that the copies in the darker wraps may represent unbound copies of the deluxe edition. Ansell also describes an issue “sewn without wrappers”.
