Krzysztof Fijalkowski is Professor of Visual Culture and senior lecturer in Fine Art, Norwich University of the Arts. As a writer and researcher his principal focus is the history, theory and practices of the international surrealist movement; recent areas of particular interest include surrealism’s engagement with photography, design and the object, as well as its histories in central and eastern Europe. His publications include (as co-editor and contributor) Surrealism: Key Concepts(Routledge, 2016) and The International Encyclopedia of Surrealism (Bloomsbury, 2019), as well as chapters in The Situationist International: A Critical Handbook (Pluto Press, 2020), Surrealism and Film After 1945 (Manchester UP, 2021) and The Routledge Companion to Surrealism (Routledge, 2022). He has also contributed essays for exhibition catalogues including Le Surréalisme (Centre Pompidou, 2024), Surrealism Beyond Borders (Metropolitan Museum of Art/Tate, 2021) and Objects of Desire: Surrealism and Design 1924–Today (Vitra Design Museum, 2019). As a translator, he has collaborated on English-language publications of surrealist texts, including André Breton’s Magic Art.
